Capture of Osama Bin Laden

Osama Bin Laden must be a hell of a smart guy. I mean, how else can you explain how this man who’s around 6 foot 4 and requires daily dialysis has managed to evade capture for almost a decade, despite half the world’s intelligence and military services looking for him? Well, that’s an interesting question.

Maybe you remember the CBS 60 Minutes interview with the leader of a Delta Force squad assigned to capture or kill Bin Laden. This man said that when they finally did find Bin Laden’s hiding place, their BEST plans for an attack were disapproved at the “highest levels.” The secondary plans were, obviously, inadequate to complete the task.

It raises the question: DOES the US really want to capture or kill Bin Laden? Because if they do, then why have they, with all their resources and money and men on the ground, and eyes in the sky, failed to do so? Is it because Bin Laden is smarter than US military and intelligence are… OR is it because they really don’t want it done? Bear with me.

Maybe it’s been decided that bringing him to trial would lead to a Jihad unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Undoubtedly, killing him would solidify his status as a hero, and surely make him a martyr of the highest degree. Definitely possible explanations. There is, however, another one.

That other possible explanation for the failure of to capture or kill him is that, maybe, the US has made a deal with Osama Bin Laden. No more attacks against American targets anywhere in the world, and in exchange, the charade will continue. Please note that I am not saying there have not been attacks by Al Qaeda splinter groups not directly lead by Bin Laden, but I can’t think of any directly organized by Bin Laden’s group.

I know it sounds implausible, but to quote Shakespeare “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Knowing the vast powers of the US military and government, these are the only alternatives that I can think of. I repeat. Either Bin Laden is smart enough to avoid capture by the most advanced intelligence organizations on earth, OR the American government doesn’t want him captured for fear of stirring up a Jihad, OR they have made a quiet deal with him. Can you think of another alternative, or a better explanation?

Now, I’m not claiming any sort of inside knowledge. I’m just trying figure out how this one man has been able to avoid Delta Force operatives, drone aircraft, huge monetary rewards and every other weapon in the US military and intelligence arsenal.
