China Piracy
Many people would consider the modern Western economy to have been built on a foundation of creativity, perseverance, and innovation. That the reason the United States is a superpower is because they’ve developed groundbreaking technologies, and instilled a pioneering spirit in its citizens. A “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality, where hard work brings rewards.
And then, there’s China, which seems to have developed a scavenging, copycat economic philosophy. Buy a fake Rolex made in China. Fake Viagra (that doesn’t do the job and is made of gypsum) - made in China. Toxic food and medications - made in China. You’d think this would damage their economy, but so far, it hasn’t. For several years our Commentaries have been warning that China is the greatest threat to the world and our western way of life. We have warned of its growing economic power.
But China isn’t just copying popular consumer goods. It also steals government secrets with systematic hacking and it steals military secrets the same way.
But it doesn’t stop at computer hacking. In 1999 a US F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter was shot down over Serbia.
It’s widely believed that the Chinese went to Serbia, and bought up as many of the downed plane’s pieces as they could, wherever they could, in an effort to understand the stealth design and features. Result: Recently China unveiled its own Stealth Fighter during a visit by the US Secretary of Defense. Talk about “Chutzpah”.
In a similar scenario, recently Russian-Chinese relations were strained when Russia accused China of copying Russia’s SU-27 and SU-33 Fighters.
China has also developed and successfully tested, satellite-killer missiles which would be able to kill Western satellite eyes-in-the-sky should war break out.
In addition, China is completing its first aircraft carrier. Those fighter planes, satellite killers, the aircraft carrier and the ballistic missiles China is developing, means China is becoming not only the world’s premier economic power but a hard to ignore global military power as well.
I wonder how safe Taiwan is feeling these days. I wonder how safe we should all feel when the most populous country in the world, and the greatest economic power, also becomes the world’s greatest military power. Now, more than ever, we need to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” economically and militarily, regain the West’s upper hand, and stop China before it’s too late. If it isn’t already.
China is not our friend no matter how hard we pretend it is.
