The John Edwards Affair
The recent John Edwards revelations are shocking to us at Naked News only in one respect: the media’s reaction to it that this would have been catastrophic to the Democratic party had Edwards won his parties nomination for President. What we find shocking is how many journalists consider this a relevant question in the 21st century and how many networks consider this worthy of extended coverage.
While many may debate his place in history, the Jennifer Flowers affair did not derail the election of Bill Clinton (for two terms I might add) nor his abilities as President. What did hurt his effectiveness as President was the politically motivated witch hunt over Whitewater, that went nowhere and wasted valuable resources during the Clinton first term, and the subsequent impeachment attempt over the Monica Lewinsky affair (and I do mean affair) that wasted much of his second term.
The US needs a "don’t ask don’t tell" policy not only for gays in the military but for all candidates for public office.
These stories should stay on the front pages of the National Enquirer next to the alien baby stories, because they are tabloid journalism at best. And they are detrimental to getting some well qualified people to run for public office because they do not want to expose their families to public scrutiny in the private lives.
Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy were all pretty good American Presidents and all of them, we are told, had extra-marital affairs. If having such affairs eliminates a person from holding a position of elected office, we are going to eliminate a lot of Alpha Males likely most of them.
Oh. Do you believe it is relevant to this election that John McCain had several admitted extramarital affairs while married to his first wife. We don’t believe it is. Let’s grow up people.
