Nuclear Standoff with Iran
The West is facing its most serous international crisis of the 21st Century and perhaps the most critical since the Cuban Missile Crisis of the 1960s, while Iran is sitting on a Win-Win-Win situation.
As we have reported over the months Iran is very close to finalizing the creation of nuclear weapon technology and materials. The West (the U.S. Europe, the U.N. and even other Islamic nations) have pleaded with Iran to stop the process. So how is this Win Win Win for Iran?
First, if the West is able to convince Iran to shut down its nuclear program (which at this time appears unlikely) Iran will gain by extracting serous economic and political concessions from the West that is they will be paid very handsomely as was as did North Korea recently.
Alternatively, if they do not reach agreement with the West either Israel or the US may attack Irans nuclear facilities (as Israel did with Iraqs nuclear program in 1981) and again Iran wins by shouting out to the world that it has been unjustly attacked and it now has the right to retaliate against Israel and the US directly and through its proxies, Hezbollah and Hamas, and perhaps even Al Quaida. As a representative of Ayatollah Ali Khamenie, Irans supreme leader recently said, "If they commit such a stupidity Tel Aviv and US shipping in the Gulf will be Irans first targets."
Lastly if the West does nothing, Iran becomes the greatest power in the Middle East, and the world enters a new Cold War Era but with an Islamic Fundamentalist led country that believes it is fighting a holy war with Israel and western infidels.
Iran suffered over 1 million casualties in its war with Iraq in the 1980s. We shudder to think what they might be willing to risk to eliminate Israel and its supporters and what the West will be willing to risk to prevent it.
