Politicians – 2008-12-15
Having watched and reported on politicians for many years we, at Naked News, have drawn some conclusions that many of you may agree with.
First no one we know runs for political office for altruistic reasons. It is generally a matter of ego gratification rather than public service. If one really wanted to help others one could volunteer in a hospital, hospice or food kitchen and not run for pubic office. I know of no politician who will ever qualify for sainthood.
Secondly politicians always spend more time talking than doing. If you remove from their monthly day, dining with lobbyists and interest groups, attending functions for constituents, holidays, and working on their re-election, we doubt if they put in one or two good days a month in actually doing what they were elected to do.
Thirdly, in order to get elected politicians make promises, that everyone knows they will never keep, and then once elected they tell us how things have changed that makes implementation of those promises impractical.
Fourthly when dealing with public funds politicians never shop at the Dollar Store. They never look to cut costs, rather they are the only ones in the world that can find a consistent method of paying more than retail price. No wonder almost every city, county, state and nation has a deficit and debt of huge proportions, and as spending increases necessary services and infrastructure deteriorate. Deficit spending should be constitutionally prohibited. Our politicians must be prohibited from living beyond our means and a flat tax should be brought in so that they cannot legislate more and higher taxes.
Lastly, politicians should be constitutionally prohibited from giving our hard earned money to other nations especially third world dictators so long as there is a national debt or national deficit. If one were to eliminate the money that your country gives away in so called "foreign aid" your country could bring in comprehensive health care and child care for all of its own citizens and cut your taxes in the process. We want to make it clear that we do exempt from this statement - humanitarian aid. In that vein, the tax code should be amended to give say an 80% tax deduction for charitable donations.
Things will not change until we ALL say "I am fed up and I won’t take it anymore." So how do we do this? Well perhaps as a symbol of our discontent in the next elections we all agree to stay home and not vote. Let’s elect our next President or Prime Minister by a vote of 7 to 6 and see if they can claim a mandate from the people. Maybe that will eliminate the ego gratification they want and bring out some real reformers of a broken and corrupt system.
We would like to hear your ideas on reforming our dysfunction political systems. Please write us at feedback@nakednews.com.
