Religious Predators -
If I knew a serious crime had been committed and I consciously hid the perpetrator, I would, at the very least, be guilty of aiding and abetting that crime,….. and if discovered, I would be prosecuted.
So why is it that those in the hierarchy of various religious orders who discovered knew about AND COVERED UP the brutalization and sexual exploitation of parishioners, most of them including children, and did nothing…, have almost never been charged with anything.
A recent enquiry (one of many) concluded: "When confronted with evidence of abuse the response of the religious authorities was to transfer the offender to another location where, in many instances, he was free to abuse again. Children lived with the daily terror of not knowing when the next beating was coming."
Shouldn’t these church authorities be subject to the same earthly justice as the rest of us for their crimes against society?. Why have we generally exempted such peoplesuch people generally been exempted from our justice system?.
The tribunal I quoted from, went on to refuse to name the names--not only the authorities who did the transferring, but also the abusers themselves.
I sure hope there IS divine justice, because, evidently, these victims are not going to see their persecutors punished here on earth.
