The Republican Candidates
I have said it before but it is worth repeating. Politicians think we are stupid. They think it so often, their advisors drum it into them that it must be true.
Watching the recent Republican Presidential hopefuls’ debate I was amazed that in these desperate times, the leading candidates are not advocating any real ideas or solutions for the problems facing America.
Rick Perry, Mit Romney, Michelle Bachman, and Jon Huntsman all said the same thing. I am the best one to be President. I have the best experience. But don’t ask me for details of how I will create jobs, solve the housing crisis and fix the economy. Just trust me because well - look at how good my hair looks. If I can look this good, I can certainly lead a country.
The only real ideas I heard came from contenders that likely have no chance of gaining the nomination. Herman Cain suggested scrapping the tax code and implementing a 9% income tax and a federal sales tax. The latter we have advocated here as well.
Newt Gingrinch seems to me to have the best handle on the US problems and knows how to work Congress better than anyone else in this crowd.
And Ron Paul. Whether you agree with them or not he certainly has concrete ideas. But Mr. Paul just doesn’t look or speak “Presidential” . He didn’t get the nomination for 2008 and has no chance this time around either.
So why is it that ideas are coming from the guys who can’t win the nomination and all that is coming from the other guys is “It’s time for a change” and “I am the best person to be President.”
The reason is because if you are in the lead, you don’t want to risk a stumble that may cost you the race. So it’s best to look good, speak well, and commit to little.
I think we would all like to see a strong candidate with real disclosed ideas face Barak Obama in the next election. America and the world are looking for real leadership not good hair.
